We like to know more about the people we meet and connect with. One of the first thing we notice on people’s profiles, whether on Facebook, twitter or even a Gmail account, is their profile picture. Vanityvid, an Israeli startup, helps spruce up  our profile picture.

We spend more and more time on social media networks, (more than 6 hours monthly on Facebook alone), and a large poriton of that time is dedicated to enhancing our profile appearance. We update our feelings and whereabouts, and constantly update our profile picture which is visible to all. Vanityvid allows users to attach a short video to their profile pic using a simple firefox addon.

Activating Vanityvid, is a simple task. After installing the add-on via Mozilla, all you need to do is upload a short video to Vanityvid. Webcam or mobile phone videos can easily provide you with the raw material required. Vanityvid helps connect your video to your mail, twitter or Facebook account. This is how it appears:

This new app, which works with Facebook, twitter, email accounts and WordPress, can appeal to many users seeking to enrich their profile, or are constantly looking to innovate in new ways. If the service ’sticks’, it can be applied by many users from having a funny vid introducing themselves to having a promotional clip for your business on your personal profile.

The things we would expect in the future are having more video editing features and the ability to embed existing videos from sources such as Youtube. Focusing more development on features for bloggers and wordpress users could also be a successful route.
