TV Meets Telephony: Twilio & Boxee Hackathon
Boxee and Twilio are Announcing the Twilio & Boxee Developer Contest & Hackathon.
Twilio provides a web-service API for businesses to build scalable, reliable communication apps. Boxee is a cross-platform freeware for home theater PC (HTPC) program. It has social networking features designed for the living-room TV. Boxee provides APIs that allow you to turn their service into what you’ve always dreamed of for a media center (read more on TheWadi’s company index).
The clock starts ticking now on a joint Boxee & Twilio dev contest. The mission for developers is to unite the telephone and the television in an awesome way using Twilio and Boxee. The contest is open until April 12th at midnight PDT

Telephony Meets Television
For the next two weeks, developers are challenged to create applications that combine two APIs. At the end of the two weeks, Boxee and Twilio will be holding hackathons in San Francisco and New York City.
The developer who submits the best application to the contest will be eligible to win a Netbook from Twilio and a Boxee Box as soon as they become available.
Twilio supplied a few examples as basis of powerful mashups:
- Interactive in show ads
- QVC style product placement (order by phone) for products within shows
- Check into your favorite shows a la Foursquare (like recently launched Miso)
- Ability to order food while watching TV (like Xbox, integrated with GrubHub?)
What is the Hackathon?
The weekend of April 10th Twilio and Boxee will be simultaneously co-hosting a 29 hour hackathon, which will take place at the Twilio offices (RSVP here) in San Francisco, and in New York city with the Boxee team. They promise lots of snacks, pizza, beer, and shenanigans.
