PicApp offers bloggers and publishers to share ad revenues
PicApp, an Israeli company that hosts and enables embedding of image galleries, now offers publishers an option to share the ad revenue made by PicApp. This is an incentive for publishers to host the galleries.
Picapp’s new monetization program, called Media Discovery Network, is currently open only to sites with over 100,000 unique visitors per month. PicApp customizes the gallery for the hosting site and manages all the advertisement.
There are no specific details about which ads are presented and how the revenue is split. As it’s a new program that is customized for each site, also the monetization details are probably individually tailored.
The new monetization feature builds on PicApp’s customizable photo gallery, recently released. Publishers that don’t meet the traffic requirements can still host the galleries and insert their own advertisement.
PicApp’s galleries can be very useful for sites that use many images, such as celebrity sites. Publishers are relieved of being worried about copyright issues, and they get a constant flow of fresh images. Images are sought on the web and attract a big portion of searches.
Another advantage is with increasing page views per visit and reducing the bounce rate, similar to Wibiya’s toolbar (see Wibiya review and Wibiya’s new applications). PicApp built its galleries so that every view of an image creates another page view. This approach is less smooth than Facebook’s image browsing style, but improves stats.
Many sites would like to control the exact image that accompanies their article / site, so hosting a gallery may not suit everybody. Nevertheless, images are undoubtedly important for every website – adding color, optimizing for search engines and giving the user an image of what he’s going to read. A picture is worth a thousand words and thousands of page views.
