Metacafe adds Premium British TV clips

Metacafe, a large online video sharing site, signed a distribution deal with MVR that will enable Metacafe to host quality British TV clips on on the site.

Mr. Bean, How To Look Good Naked, FATV, Father Ted and many more British clips will now be streamed on Metacafe, which grants an exclusive right to MVR to sell advertising on these clips. MVR’s content is expected to have a high level of engagement with the viewers – a click through rate of 3-8%.

This is another content deal in a long series of deals that Metacafe strikes with content providers. We’ve previously reported that Metacafe expanded its music partnerships. Music clips and comedy clips such as Mr. Bean are popular “entertainment snacks” for people online.

Making such content deals has two significant advantages. First, it brings in a huge amount of content in an orderly fashion – all the metadata that accompanies the movies is provided with the clip itself. The second advantage is having the rights issues cleared off the table – copyright infringement lawsuits won’t be seen here.
