ActiveBase is a Gartner Cool Vendor

ActiveBase, an Israeli startup developing security and performance applications for Oracle databases, has been announced as one of Gartner’s “Cool Vendors” for 2010, in the category of application security. This prestigious acknowledgement is expected to create business opportunities for ActiveBase, especially in the US.

Gartner ActiveBase

ActiveBase, which was founded back in 2002  has quite a few products, but the one that stood out for Gartner’s analysts is ActiveBase Security. The need to allow only specific users to see only specific data, raised the need for tightening security. For example, call enter operators for mobile companies do a part time job for a short period and then move on. These workers have access to personal information of the company’s customers, and they have little loyalty to the company.

ActiveBase’s product is the first product using a technology called “Dynamic Data Masking” – the data is masked according to permissions, without the need to re-code the applications, some are heavy duty legacy ones. Scrambling, hiding and blocking sensitive information in real time without touching the application saves a lot of development money.

ActiveBase worked hard on getting into Gartner’s shortlist of innovative vendors. While the company already does business in Israel and in Europe, this stamp from Gartner will enable easier access to American companies. ActiveBase will now try to expand its client-base, before competitors also dive into this new growing field of Dynamic Data Masking.
